New details in progress of 3-year-old mauled by dog

NAPLES, Fla.- A Mississippi 3-year-old who’s face was disfigured after she was mauled by a dog will soon receive a new eye.

WINK News has covered Victoria Wilcher’s story extensively after she captured the heart of a Naples eye specialist.

Raymond Peters is taking care of Victoria’s new eye– for free.

Peters says Victoria is recovering from an eye infection she got during one of her surgeries in Mississippi. He tells WINK News people constantly ask him how the little girl is doing.

“It’s a constant with little Victoria, people are interested in her progress and we keep them informed. Sometimes we get personal phone calls and I’m stopped on the street sometimes.”

Peters says he’s going to help Victoria until the very end.

She’ll be coming back to Naples in January for a checkup where she’ll be fitted for her next prosthetic eye.
