CAPE CORAL, Fla.- On Monday and Tuesday, Santa got a little help from the Cape Coral Fire Department.

Thanks to the generosity of the citizens of Cape Coral, firefighters were able to deliver toys to some children and help make their holidays a little brighter. This year over 200 children received gifts. Gifts were given to children with Down syndrome, cancer, and other chronic illnesses or lifelong conditions and their siblings. Children in families with financial hardships also received toys.

The toys were collected at all 10 fire stations from November 21 to December 12. “The generosity this year was staggering,” said Andrea Schuch, Public Information Officer for the Fire Department, “At least 750 toys for kids of all ages were collected.”

Firefighters say they were honored to be part of the process. “We are so grateful for all of the donations so we could have such amazing gifts, and so many, to bring to the children. They were so excited to receive them, and it gives us such a wonderful feeling. We thank the Cape Coral residents for making it possible,” said Lieutenant Jim Klein, one of the firefighters who assisted with the toy delivery.
