MGN Online PORT ORANGE, Fla. (AP) – A police officer struck a scooter-style motorcycle, critically injuring the rider. The Florida Highway Patrol says 27-year-old Officer Silvio Portillo was driving his marked patrol car early Sunday when the front of the vehicle hit the back of the motorcycle. The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1rcmO09 ) reports 39-year-old Andrew McIlvain was thrown off the motorcycle. He wasn’t wearing a helmet. He was taken to a Daytona Beach hospital in critical condition. The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a Port Orange hospital. The crash is under investigation.
