TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida Education Commissioner Pam Stewart announced the state will study the use of standardized testing in public schools.

Monday’s announcement follows through on a campaign promise by Republican Gov. Rick Scott to study testing and education standards.

The review will look at all standardized testing in schools and how they’re being used by local, state and federal governments.

Stewart also announced a committee will be formed to review the implementation of the state’s education standards, the instructional materials review processes and how to get parents more involved in those decisions.

The state’s standards are closely based on the federal Common Core standards, but have come under fire, especially from conservative activists, who contend they represent a federal takeover of education.
