FORT MYERS, Fla. – UPDATE: Perez made his first appearance in court Sunday morning. His bond has been set at $450,000.

A man is behind bars for attempted murder. Police said Jose Perez got into a domestic dispute with his fiance around 10 a.m. Saturday. It happened at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and North Airport Road.

Police said 29 year old shot at a white Chevy several times, the front windshield was shattered from the bullets. FMPD said his fiances family members were inside the vehicle at the time.

Yellow evidence markers were placed by several shell casings on the sidewalk where police said Perez shot from as the car tried to drive away.

Aleiha Godfrey tells WINK News she heard six gunshots before seeing a man run behind the shopping center. “I figured it had to be connected because I just heard the gunshots, he ran and then all of a sudden there was police cars everywhere.”

While police interviewed witnesses at the scene, a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy quickly found Perez down the street.

People who live in the area tell WINK News they’re thankful no one was hurt. “To have something like this happen in broad daylight, in the middle of the day it’s just ignorant and stupid” said Jennifer May.

Police tell WINK News Perez had two handguns on him and confessed to the crime.

Still no one on this street will ever understand what lead to all the violence. “What’s the point of doing all this a couple days before Christmas? What is it going to solve?” said Steven Malone.

Police said Perez also struck another vehicle traveling north on Cleveland Avenue. No one in that vehicle was hurt.

Perez was booked into jail on two counts of attempted murder, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle and two counts of carrying a concealed firearm. He’s being held on no bond.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and North Airport Road.  Two of the three southbound lanes of Cleveland Avenue at North Airport Road were closed for hours, but have reopened.

Detectives with the Fort Myers Police Department says Perez confessed to the crime.  He faces several charges including attempted murder.
