Injured manatee in East Naples

EAST NAPLES, Fla. – Trouble in paradise for a manatee in the waters of southwest Florida.

Seeing manatees is a treat for the LeFaive family, who is visiting from Canada.

The family spotted the manatee on Friday, in the creek behind an East Naples home on Henderson Drive. They noticed propeller marks on the manatee, most likely from a boat.

Neighbors called 911, who contacted Florida Fish and Wildlife officers.

The LeFaive family tells WINK News no one showed up to help.

WINK News reached out to wildlife officers and learned they are sending someone out this weekend to check on the manatee.

Wildlife officers say if you’re on the water, try to avoid shallow areas as much as possible, where manatees spend the most time. Keep an eye out for a snout, tail, or flipper breaking the surface.
