Legion of Honor medal winners honored

PALM COAST, Fla. (AP) – Two 89-year-old veterans of World War II were honored at a reception after receiving France’s Legion of Honor medals.

Herbert Brucker and Linwood “Nemo” Farmer received their medals in earlier and were guests of honor Wednesday at Palm Coast VFW Post 8696.

Brucker spent three years in the Army and was a staff sergeant. Farmer is a 20-year Navy veteran who served in World War II and the Korean War.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/16vetvu ) reports Brucker was among 19 Florida veterans to receive the medal on Dec. 9 in Deland from Consul General of France Philippe Letrilliart. Farmer received his medal Nov. 2 in Atlantic Beach.

The medal is the most prestigious honor given by France for exceptional merit.

Brucker received a Bronze Star after the war.
