LEE COUNTY, Fla.- Nearly 48 hours after the murder of a Lee County man, his family is increasing the reward for information leading to the arrest of their loved one’s killer.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received reports of shots fired in the area of N. Galaxy Drive and S. Galaxy Drive.

Police say upon arriving at the scene, they found 40-year-old Rene Garcia deceased from gunfire.  While Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest, Garcia’s family has increased that reward this evening by an additional $5,000 in hopes of finding closure and seeing that justice is served.

“Mr. Garcia’s family was very tight knit and they’re all struggling to know why he was killed,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator.  “His family has quickly rallied together to do whatever it takes to find justice for Rene.”

Garcia leaves behind six siblings, four children and both parents.  He lived in close proximity to most of his family members, and is remembered as a man who was extremely dedicated to those he loved.

Anyone with information on the murder of Garcia is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of $1,000 from Crime Stoppers and an additional $8,000 from the Garcia family.  Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
