Woman receives criminal citation for leaving baby unattended in car

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- WINK News has learned a woman received a criminal citation for leaving her baby unattended in a car for over 40 minutes.

Paramedics rescued the baby trapped in a locked car Thursday night outside a Walmart on US 41 and Pine Island Road.

A witness says she heard the baby crying in the car and had the mother paged in the store but they couldn’t find her.

The baby was eventually rescued, checked out by paramedics and released to his mother who witnesses say seemed unconcerned about the situation.

“They had said ‘is this your car?’ and she said ‘I think so, what’s going on?’ and then she just started putting her groceries in her car. Didn’t even ask about the baby, had like no care in the world of what was going on with her child. That was it, was texting and not looking at the cops and calling people on her phone,” said Jessica Vunk.
