Collier County family loses everything in fire

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A Collier County family lost everything in a fire over the weekend, and now they have no place to call home. Three kids were there when the fire broke out underneath the home. Only WINK News spoke to the homeowner who says she is reliving a nightmare she has been through before.

“I’m scared, I’m stressed, it’s overwhelming to figure out what’s going to happen,” said Sharon Krum.

Heartbreak can be seen in these pictures.

“I was a basket case. I was screaming, I was crying,” said Krum.

They showed WINK News what’s left of their home that caught on fire leaving the family with absolutely nothing.

“We still need blankets, furniture, but we have no place to put them, so it’s kind of hard to ask for stuff like that when we don’t even have a house to live in right now,” Krum told WINK News.

First responders with Big Corkscrew Island Fire District did everything to try and save the home.

“They were awesome, Barry is awesome, they were thoughtful, they were nice, they were courteous.”

But, the end result for the Krum family is devastating.

“All we seen is the smoke, I saw it coming out of the corner of the house and that’s when I ran over there, looked underneath and you could see all the installation and everything was on fire.”

Unfortunately, this family knows this feeling all too well.

“I just try to smile and think that everything is going to be okay.”

Eight years ago, they were left homeless because of a fire.

“I have my moments when I break down by myself, but I got to be strong for the kids and worry about them.”

The fire department ruled this an accidental electrical fire. For the last three days, the Red Cross had them in a hotel, but that stay ended Tuesday morning and the fire department was able to help get them a hotel, free of charge until Sunday.
