City Council approves contract extension for FMPD chief

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Police Chief Doug Baker will keep his position within the department for the next three years.

City Council members approved his new contact which will pay him more than $136,000 a year.

Councilman Johnny Streets was the only member to not vote for the contract.  He believes Baker has not done enough to curb crime in some neighborhoods.

“My job or responsibility is not to appease any of the council. My job is to provide public safety to the community, run the department,” said Chief Baker.

His new contract will start January 1st.
