COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- New details have been released about a 20-year-old cold case.

Police say two people witnessed the murder in 1995 and came forward with information to identify a suspect.

44-year-old Alfredo Urbina allegedly shot and killed 35-year-old Fernando Romero in April of 1995.

Court documents show deputies were called to the area around Fleming Street after hearing gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found Romero dead in a driveway, holding a broken beer bottle and a cigarette. Authorities say he was shot multiple times.

The two people that witnessed the shooting were able to identify Urbina as the shooter. One of the witnesses even picked him out of a lineup.

Urbina was arrested earlier this year in Texas after officials say he had a run-in with U.S. Border Patrol.

Although he’s been fighting extradition, deputies transferred Urbina back to Collier County.

He’s now sitting in jail for a first degree murder charge. Urbina is being held on no bond.
