Observant neighbor helps police nab burglary suspect

FORT MYERS, Fla. – An observant neighbor helped police catch a burglary suspect Friday.

The Fort Myers Police Department received a 911 call from a homeowner who witnessed someone break into their neighbor’s residence on South Street. The caller further advised the suspect was seen entering a window at the rear of the residence after smashing it with a brick.

When the first few FMPD units arrived they witnessed a suspect exiting the window carrying a backpack.

When the suspect spotted police, he ran to a nearby bicycle and fled through the residential area.

A few minutes’ later officers spotted the suspect coming from in between several house just a few blocks away from the crime scene.

The 16-year-old suspect was eventually taken into cusotody.

Police say the juvenile stole an XBOX 360, laptop and the backpack he later used to carry the stolen items out of the burglary scene.

Detectives were able to return the stolen items to the homeowner.
