CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A Southwest Florida law firm spent Sunday helping families in need.

Pendas Law Firm in Fort Myers handed out hundreds of turkeys Sunday to a large line of people. Gricel Conde just moved to Cape Coral from Miami for a new job. With Thanksgiving around the corner, she knew she would not be able to buy a turkey for the holiday.

“I cannot afford it right now, to buy anything because we just moved,” said Conde. “You know, when you move to a city, just start a job, we don’t have the means.”

Conde woke up just after midnight, so she could be the first person in line at Pendas Law Firm. She along with several other waited seven hours for their free bird.

“Oh it’s a blessing. I’m very happy that they are giving the turkey away,” Conde said.

The owner of the firm, Lou Pendas said he started handing out free turkeys after one of hiw clients told him he could not afford a Thanksgiving dinner.

“I thought to myself, well he can’t be the only person in this situation, there’s got to be a heck of a lot more people in this same situation,” said Pendas.

In the past six years, Pendas and his firm said they have fed more than 20,000 families in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and Fort Myers.
