CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A mother and her teenage son are homeless after a driver, who police say was drunk, slammed her car into the family’s house.

The accident happened just after 5 a.m. Thursday morning at a home on Tropicana Parkway.

Police say the driver of the car, 22-year-old Fabiole Trelles, was drunk when she lost control and crashed.

The front of the house was so badly damaged that it has been condemned and the mother and her son had to leave.

Officials say Trelles smashed into a neighbor’s mailbox, then swerved into Jorie Holtman’s front yard before crashing into her doorway head on.

Holtman says the accident couldn’t have come at a worse time.

“Just got my car, haven’t even made my first payment on it yet, and now this happens,” said Holtman.

Holtman and her 15-year-old son Michael were home sleeping when the car smashed through the front of their house.

“All of a sudden I just hear a loud crash, as if like a train hit just straight metal,” said Michael.

Authorities say they also found marijuana in Trelles’ car. She was arrested for DUI.

Forced to pack up and leave, Holtman and her son are now in a hotel for the night courtesy of the Red Cross. After that, she doesn’t know what they’ll do, or where they’ll go.

“People won’t accept me and my son and my pets all at one time.”

Holtman says although she doesn’t want to, she is considering adopting her pets out so that she and her son will have somewhere to live.
